Dylan Lloyd

2009 Graduate

“Receiving an education from a community college has been one of the most consequential and rewarding decisions of my life. The college’s music program is nothing short of excellent, and it appropriately prepared me for how to write songs within the parameters of what the music industry is looking for. I diligently honed my songwriting craft in the practice rooms of Moraine Valley and learned how to write radio-quality and commercially-viable pop songs. Subsequently, I was signed to a songwriting deal with a major music publishing company only six months after I graduated from Moraine Valley. If it wasn’t for the phenomenal teachings of Tammi Carlson, professor of music, I certainly would not approach my songwriting from such a methodical perspective as I do today. She helped me to understand notational relationships relative to their chord progressions in conjunction with changing keys and how all of these components coexist musically.”

Anticipated Graduation: Spring 2019

“I think most, if not all, students should consider Moraine Valley,” she says. “I get so much help from my instructors. I can talk to them before or after class. And I love the campus. Also, they have so many different degrees and things people can study. It was such a great decision for me to come here.”

Music Facilities

Dorothy Menker Theater

The 600-seat Dorothy Menker Theater is a proscenium theater with a movable orchestra pit. The theater is beautifully designed with excellent acoustics, sightlines, and cutting-edge theatrical equipment. Our theater productions are performed here, and you can enjoy superb professional productions in theater, dance, and music throughout the year.

John and Angeline Oremus Theater

Featuring an overhead “trampoline grid” for dynamic light and sound design, Moraine Valley’s flexible theater space is the 150-seat John and Angeline Oremus Theater. In this “black-box” setting, productions can be mounted arena, thrust, proscenium, or environmental style, depending on the play’s needs and the director’s vision. It’s also used as an acting and stagecraft classroom.
